"IFIKOLWE" is a digital collage that explores the dynamic relationship between cultural heritage, personal identity, and contemporary influences. Ifikolwe is a Bemba word, which means "forefathers" or "ancestors." The artwork features a small figure sitting on an African mask, symbolizing the connection to ancestral lineage. Crafted from newspaper clippings, the figure's clothing represents the blending of tradition and modernity. Against a vibrant sky and deserted backdrop, the artwork prompts reflection on the importance of maintaining ties with forefathers and ancestral traditions. This piece celebrates the wisdom passed down through generations while questioning the integration of contemporary influences into cultural identities. It invites viewers on a transformative journey of self-discovery, bridging the gap between past and present, tradition and innovation.
